1 Cent Flights

BUDGET airline Virgin Blue is claiming to offer the lowest ever airfares in Australia by offering 1 cent flights out of Sydney.

One thousand 1 cent seats for flights between Sydney and Port Macquarie on the NSW mid-north coast, will go one sale at 8pm tomorrow.
The first flight is scheduled to depart Sydney as DJ 1185 at 11.35am and arrive in Port Macquarie at 12.30pm.

The one cent fares includes taxes and surcharges which would normally cost passengers $41.73.

The internet only sale will last for four hours from 8pm or until sold out. The travel period is from February 6, 2008 to 30 June, 2008.

Virgin Blue Chief Executive, Brett Godfrey said: "At 8pm tomorrow evening, Virgin Blue will flick the switch and offer what is the cheapest fare ever to be seen in the domestic aviation market."

The new Port Macquaire service is part of the airline's regional growth strategy.

The airline says the service delivers on a commitment to bring competition and affordability to the heart of Australia's regional communities, not just capital cities.

Pitty that flying between the 2 places is redundant for those of us here in tas.

But still, its a sign of things to come !
