Hello, I love Tasmania, having lived there 3 times before. (Wish I could get back there to stay).
I am looking to chat with people in Tasmania, about Tasmania.
I am interested in chatting with people from the country areas, as I would like to live on a secluded bush block there.
Especially those people with an interest in self sufficiency & living in tune with nature, animal & nature lovers.
I hope someone responds.

If you want to see snow, I'd be saying get close as possible to mt Wellingston(mt above hobart). "Fern Tree" possibly?

^picture as I was driving upto Mt wellington last year.

Hi Grant
WOW thanks for that lovely photo, makes me homesick Sad
Mt wellingtons too close to the city for me, I want a block without power, sewerage, services, building codes & councils sticking their beaks in. Smile
I want to put a small cabin on & run solar power/battery/generator, have a compost dunny (inside), solar cooker, solar dehydrator, solar compost bins etc. Oh and a back up propane gas stove & fridge Smile
Feral I know.

Can anyone smell that???? hehe

I think there's more then one person that would like this setup including myself. However generating power still isn't easy and cheap.

Depends on just how much power you want. Under a grand will get you a genny, 2 batteries, 400 watt inverter & a solar panel or two (depending where you get it). Also depends on what you want to power. This will get you started, you can add to it later if you want more power.

his place is past elderslie.

Runs a solar panel and a wind generator that charges some batteries for him, but its out of action until he can get a couple more.
Until then, he has a generator, but they are un reliable, and as far as I am concerned, defeat a large part of being self sufficient.. you gotta buy fuel for them.

Wind / solar is by far the better approach, seeing as all my brother really runs is a TV and a small bar fridge, he could get by on it fine if he had the batteries.

If your looking for that kind of seclusion there are plenty of blocks around. Just that some of them are a bit rougher than others. My bro was lucky enough to get one that already had a dwelling and some fences up.
