About a year a go me and my parents were at vinnies getting rid of old stuff ,and i saw a Ps2 the dvd trays front was a bit damaged so i grabbed it i have finnaly had time to look at it and i found that a rectifier was dead http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rectifier so i went to dicksmith got a replacement soldered it in and it works.
Total cost of repair = 2c

Not at all an un-common issue.

I find that seeing as i mostly have older consoles in my care, i can do most of the repairs myself.

I've got 4 playstation 2's only one works, its due to stuffing dodgyness. If you knew the PS2 motherboard well enough i might get you to look at one or two of them.

Doesnt seem like he could do a lot of damage.

Most common issue with those things was a dead DVD drive.

those ps2, need to have the motherboard replaced in it, the joints are to tiny to fix and some stuff if bridging

even if i cant fix i may be able to find the fault

i know the fault, solder has been removed from parts and solder has been spilt on chips and cant b removed

Did you try a Solder sucker? or braid copper to remove it

of course and no it didn't help, there's just so many places, its not easy to see

yeah, removing solder bridges from those sort of chips isn't easy to do, let alone without cooking the chip in the process.
