TSUNAMI THREAT TO South East mainland coast and Tasmania

The Joint Australian Tsunami Warning Centre has detected a large undersea
earthquake south of New Zealand in the Auckland Islands region and is seeking
confirmation that tsunami have been generated.


If tsunami have been generated, then they could start affecting these locations
at the following local times:
Macquarie Island from 04:15 pm (UTC+10hrs) Sunday
St Helens from 05:30 pm (EST) Sunday
Spring Bay from 05:30 pm (EST) Sunday
Gabo Island from 05:30 pm (EST) Sunday
Eden from 05:45 pm (EST) Sunday
Batemans Bay from 05:45 pm (EST) Sunday
Babel Island from 06:00 pm (EST) Sunday
Lord Howe Island from 06:30 pm (UTC+10.5hrs) Sunday
Cape Sorell from 06:00 pm (EST) Sunday
Port Kembla from 06:00 pm (EST) Sunday
Hobart from 06:15 pm (EST) Sunday
Sydney from 06:15 pm (EST) Sunday
Lakes Entrance from 06:15 pm (EST) Sunday


People in coastal areas in threatened regions are advised to listen for updates
from your emergency services.

Further advice will be issued within 1 hour by the Bureau of Meteorology.

The earthquake occurred at 05:23 UTC 30/09/2007 at Latitude 49.4 South,
Longitude 164.0 East, with magnitude 7.6.

The Joint Australian Tsunami Warning Centre is operated by the Bureau of
Meteorology and Geoscience Australia.

UTC Time Zone conversion:
EDT = UTC + 11 hours
EST = UTC + 10 hours
CDT = UTC + 10.5 hours
CST = UTC + 9.5 hours
WDT = UTC + 9 hours
WST = UTC + 8 hours

Crap that was lucky!, I didn't even read this warnning until this morning!. Scary knowing how close they really are.

So i take it you did not get washed away in the 20cm Tsunami. Good to hear.

lol. Well it was lucky it wasn't anything big because I don't think many people would of been aware. Thanks again for keeping us up to date.

i think if they thought it was going to cause damage they would have repeated the warning on the TV and Radio for most of the afternoon and night at least until the danger period had past.
