Hi All,

Just putting it out there to see if there's many people interested in creating a folding at home team.

If you don't know what "folding" is. It basically uses a program to help find dieases, read the site above.

-Alzheimer's Disease
-Cancer
-Huntington's Disease
-Osteogenesis Imperfecta
-Parkinson's Disease
-Ribosome & antibiotics
Your participation can help lead to a cure for these diseases.

It uses a computer program that simulates possible folds. Read Standford University if you want more info http://folding.stanford.edu/

Did people want to make an account together and complete againest the world and while doing that cure diseases?

e.g. Overclockers Australia forums have been doing it since it came out (2000,2001?) and they are number two in the world!

See the stats:
http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/team_summary.php?s=&t=24

The idea was, we fold for
Username:TassieChat.com
Team:24 (which is overclockers Australia)

So then they can see us tassie people on the map!, They have State vs State competitions now and then also, and the winners win computers etc. If there was enough interest we could have a crack at that too?

After your opinons.

Grant.

Hmm, seems like a nice idea, my computer is on a fair bit for downloads, and i reckon i can leave it running for the holiday season, i used to run SETI @ Home, but this does seem like a much more achievable cause.

If anyone wants to know how to install it:

goto: http://folding.stanford.edu/download.html

download: http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegroup/release/FAH504-Console.exe (Win32 Console version)

Save it to a folder called "folding" anywhere on your computer.
double click on "FAH504-Console.exe"

Yer that'd cool, that server should kickout some good points also.

I've setup two machines at the moment.

So soon we should see a result on the stats pages, takes about two days per task to finish. Your server would probably do that same amount in a day.

Well, just got it up and running, cant wait to see how long my system takes to churn through a work unit.

providing all goes to plan, im getting a new rig in the new year, so i should hopefully be able to setup my old box (orion) as a server.

Points and deadlines <-- 104 days means you have 104 days to finish it, before it expires and someone else does it.
With only 373 points it won't take more than two days to finish on a decent machine.

You have Dual Xeons! nice.

You can have 4 processes of folding running.

This is how you do it:

Create four folders
folding1 (machineID1)
folding2 (machineID2)
folding3 (machineID3)
folding4 (machineID4)

Copy the fah-folding.exe program into each folder and run them. When it asked for advanced features choice yes.
It'll get to one stage when it asks for the machine ID. Give each one a unquie machine ID.

On Xeons, folding runs tough as, extremtly fast going through points. Plus x4!

If you have any questions ask as I'm more than willing to help.

tAK, installing as a service is probably the best.
There's a few program out that monitor the folding client when its as a service. Unzip run the programs then point them to your folding folder.

Any of the below will show you the stats. Also to make sure the Team and Username are correct.

I just installed it, dunno how often it will run, cause I gotta kill it when I game, and that's usually when my machine is running.

That said, another 3GHz chip will help progress =3
