Whats the appliance? is it car,Home there are diferances in power
[quote]if there's a module out there somewhere that will increase the amps on a power supply. [quote] You said "powersupply" there any Thousands of differant types there will be a 12v 10 amps someware it will be called some thing similar 12v 2400w and make sure if it has a jack check if the centre pin if positive on the appliance also so they match so you dont jam positive up the negative pin Anouther thing is Dragging 10 amps out of a cat battery while everthing else is running would be a short experience |

heh, dragging 10amps out of a cat... what scares me is the thought of putting 10amps into a cat in the first place.
Though, i believe you meant Car battery. and i get the feeling in grants case, its probably something dodge like making his own electric fence.. or garage door or something. |

Well dropping the voltage of your current supply to 8v will only get you an extra 500mA - the details posted say it's a 12W power supply, so you've only got two options
i) replace the power supply with a more powerful unit ii)supplement the power needs of the equipement with additional power supply units with equal/damn close voltage output A 12v supply with high current isn't that common in main-stream devices apart from computers - you could consider modifying an AT/ATX/BTX power supply to suit your needs, just make sure it's at least a 250W unit - I'm not 100% on how the load is distributed amongst the regulators so you may need the overhead or risk burning out the 12v rail. If, like I suspect they are, the 5v and 12v rails are powered by seperate regulators, you'll also have a 5v line to play with.
If you only need up to 10A, a 12v/120W power supply would do the trick - you don't need 200A, assuming you could get your hands on such a unit if it exists. |

Last time i checked, commerical PSUs for computers had just hit 1Kw (1000w if i am not mistaken) and will probably climb to 1.2kws very soon. |

heh.., how wrong was I: http://www.scorptec.com.au/product/22129 Now, here is a question for you power gurus... what happens when 5 people run their 1200w PSU off of the same power point? i cannot imagine its good for it. Does a PSU pull its full 400w or more from the wall.. or does it only pull what the system asks for? |

It'll pull what the system asks for up to its rating - when you blow a power supply, you've usually overloaded the regulators.

Ok well, I ended using a battery I had laying around. Not a car battery but a sealed lead battery. 12V's 18Amps.

Sorry, I've hooked it up to an electronic motor. To turn it on I've got a basic relay switch as I'm turning it on automatically via the computer so it requires a lower voltage for the other circuit. Basic 12V 30A relay switch has done the job for switching the two power sources. I did however want to run it off the 12V 1A source with increasing the Amps somehow. |
