Thought i'd be worth while reminding people of the Emergency numbers. Most people don't know the 122 on their mobile and and 106 for text messages.

Also for more information see:
http://emergencycalls.aca.gov.au

000
Dial Triple Zero (000) for police, fire or ambulance in a life or property threatening time critical emergency situation from all telephones (landline, mobile phones and payphones) in Australia. Information about calling Triple Zero (000) from voice over internet protocol is available.

For more information about triple zero (000) go to http://www.triplezero.gov.au .

122 using Mobile Phones
112 is the GSM international standard emergency number which can only be dialled on digital mobile phones. 112 can be dialled anywhere in the world with GSM coverage and is automatically translated to that country's emergency number.

106 using a textphone
If you are deaf or have a speech or hearing impairment you can call 106 using a textphone (TTY) or a computer with modem access, to request police, fire or ambulance assistance. For more information go to http://www.relayservice.com.au/topics/2065.html

I've received quite a few requests for a number to call for some sort Police help without using up a 000 line whilst temping at Vodafone
In NT/SA/WA/NSW/ACT/TAS/VIC you can call 131 444 for Police Assistance.
I haven't found a number for QLD as yet, though I expect a reply in the next day or so with said details.
In the meantime, (07) 3364 6464 is the QLD Police HQ switchboard

Cheers for that info Flirkann
IMO, they really do need a nationally advertised number for calling the police / fire department when it is not an emergency.

Yeh I've wanted to call the police etc, but calling 000 when its not an emergency......it's so hard to find the local police numbers.

If they made it easy, like dial 62 65 (7172) < postcode or something??? that'd be easy but yeh i guess they don't want to recieve heaps of calls
