Hi All,
I remember the days of "dial-up", still people use it. Does anyone have any good experience with a particular company. Prices etc. I'm with Ozemail(iiNet) 1.5 MB/256 10GB/10GB download $50 a month. Who's everyone else with ? Any good deals out there? Update Link database: http://bc.whirlpool.net.au/bc-list.cfm?loc=7 |

yer that one im with is with iphone, so its an extra $32 or something for the phone line rental. But they say they take $10 off the price.
So $50 for internet $32 for phone line rental -$10 and yer. If you have slow downloads, and using a file sharing program, try changing the ports, ISP's seem to have a auto thing that knows how much has been downloaded on a particular port, changing the port is like resetting your usage. (I've been told this works with iiNET) |

so with iiNET do you have to still pay telstra line rental? cause i was under the impression that you could only use a telstra phone line if you wanted adsl..?
im with eftel 256k unlimited so i get ~40gb worth of movies/games a month. |

iiNET rent off the line off telstra, Telstra's standard fee is around $29-30, whereby iinet is $34. But everything goes through iinet. So you get one bill from iinet. You can see all phone calls made via a webbased interface too. 10cent calls to anywhere in australia if you get the voip. Its sweet love it. |

yeah, iiNet syphon the extra $4 off the top, then pay the rest onto telstra.
your home phone still works fine, and you also get a VoiP modem, so you can plug a phone into it, and then its like you have 2 phones, and 2 phone numbers you also get this cool thing in your "toolbox" where you can view all the calls made that month, for either phone. im with iiNet aswell, i get 1.5 w/10gb + 10gb for $83 a month (includes line rental) they just dropped the plan though, so if you sign up now, you pay $84 and only get a 512k connection. oh, and if you read the fine print on bigpond, the unlimmited* has a * thing on it... and if you download more than 12gb they reserve the right to cap you under there "fair use" tos. it sucks. but thats big pond for ya. just about the only nice advantage, is that you can use a bigpond hotspot for the cost of a dial in. like at maccas or somewhere. (ive got a crazy idea, to take my whole desktop rig in there, and set it up... so i can use the wifi access to cruze the net.) |

Thats the same deal I've got, I've had heaps of problems with the VOIP cutting out. I gotta have ports forwarded to itself for it to work correctly, have you used your VOIP service much? if so what type of modem do you have? |

we have one of the white belkin modems, i honestly never looked at the modem, i was too impresed with the fact that i plugged it in, and it just worked.
iiNet pre-load the details for those of you that dont know. and i think its been used like once to see how it is. basically, we dont use it. other people dont have the phone number for it, and if we connected it my sister would rape it to make mobile calls... so i wouldnt know about voip problems though i can tell you that the modem has its ports blocked so that bit torrent doesnt work... i had to create a DMZ from it to my wireless router.. (everything connects to the wifi router anyways) and then use its firewall... |

I looked at the call logs, it was about 11mins 20secs every time it cuts out on VOIP. hmmm I'll have to borrow some equiptment and see if its my end or there's.
10cent calls using VOIP, I'd be using that as the main phone!, I went from $30 a month on calls to $7 |

yeah, skype is free, but you need a headset.
and skype is only free if you are calling another person using skype. if you want to call a landline it costs. i remembre reading an article on Hack-a-day. some guy has a carrier service in america, he gets free calls from his mobile to his house and vis versa. so he setup his home computer to answer the phone, he calls home for free, then dials out again from the home computer. and routes the audio etc into skype. basically, free mobile calls from anywhere in america. and extremely cheap ones for anyone on a land line. |

There's not anymore! iiNET Email: In December last year our wholesale provider made some significant changes to our supply costs. This resulted in the cost of your broadband plan exceeding the amount you are paying us. Although it was below cost, we have maintained the price and features of your plan since that time. We have built our own equipment where we can and worked with our wholesale supplier to reduce our costs. However, we now believe there is no likelihood of costs coming down for the high speed plans any time in the foreseeable future. As such, we regret to advise the download speed of your broadband Light plan will be reduced from 1500k to 512k, 21 days from the date of this notification. All of the other great features of your plan will remain unchanged: Your generous download quota will remain You will continue to receive free anti-virus and anti-spam email protection You will still be provided with a free backup dialup service Free technical support will be available to you 24/7 The 512k speed plan is very popular and is still double the speed that most other providers promote. However, if higher speed is really important to you, we have created another plan which has the same downloads and speed as your current plan but at $20 more per month. We would prefer there were no additional charges but the increase in our cost was actually more than $20 per month. If you prefer this option, please let us know within 21 days from the date of this notification. If you wish to discuss this or other options, please contact our friendly support team on 1300 300 928, or email planchange@iinet.net.au We are confident that your plan still represents great value. However, if you wish to close your account, please notify us by no later than 24 November 2006 (42 days from the date of this notification) by email to planchange@iinet.net.au If you are on a fixed term contract with us and you decide to leave, there will be no contract exit fees. If you received a free modem as part of a special deal when you signed up and you decide to leave us, you will need to pay for the modem. As hardware such as modems/routers can be used with other providers, we are unable to refund any hardware purchases if you leave. If you don’t advise us and you keep using your service as normal, we will assume that you have accepted the change of reducing the speed of your plan to 512k. For more information about this change and your options, please click here. It is with great reluctance that we must make this change and we apologise for any inconvenience. We thank you for your support and look forward to meeting your broadband needs in the future. |
