Just heard on channel "TEN" news, that Microsoft just offered to buy Yahoo for 50+billion Dollars

More news when I hear more

Microsoft offered $31 a share, which is a 62 percent premium over what they were worth at the close of the stock market on that day.
Shares in Yahoo have since gone up 32 percent.. anyone out there with yahoo shares is possibly on the verge of getting rich.. wish I had some.

Also noteworthy, is that the $44.6 billion dollars that was offered is apparently only around a quater of what Yahoo was worth in 2000, at the height of the supposed "dotcom" boom.

Could be an interesting merger, seeing as they both have a vested interested in email / online chat / news sites / search and most importantly for australia, is that the australian sites are sponsored by the major tv channels, hence NineMSN and Yahoo7 !!!

I've been listening to talk back radio shows and they reckon it's silly for that price of money.

I wonder how they came up with 45 Billion dollars. Used a "microsoft" randomizer and put a bid in?

they are probably based on the same principle as microsoft minutes in software.. it says its going to pay 45 billion dollars, but its probably more like 20.
