Hi, we are new on here. We are a family from UK who are moving all the way from Doncaster to Tasmania, we have three kids 7,4.3
We cant wait. just waiting for visa. Fingers crossed. We are a horse mad family. We are hoping to buy a pony as soon as we get there. Anyone got any info about places to keep one around Hobart? I bet riding is great in Tas? Do you ride on the beach?
Any other Brits who are going or have gone?

Hmm, not sure about riding on the beach.. Though I can imagine there are a few around where it is allowed.

Not too sure about stables / paddocks for hire, But there are a lot of people down here who have horses and the like, so it probably wouldn't be too hard to find something. You can be in a semi-rural setting within 15-20 minutes drive from the main city, and it only takes around 2 and a half hours to travel to the top end of the state.

You couldn't have picked a better place to live !!

Beach riding, there are a few - on the eastern shore I know you can ride at the far end of 7 Mile beach (the bit where the gates close about ?7?)
Most of the areas where one could keep their horses on their property are a bit of a drive from the city, 15-30 min depending on which side of the city you end up with.
The eastern shore would probably be the closest and able to service most of your needs w/o a trip into town.

Hello Jane

Cathy here. Moved from U K 28 years ago to Perth, Western Australia and to Tasmania 1 1/2 years ago. All my family still in U K. My hubby is a Yorkshire Man from near Rotherham. Never been back since the day he left. No regrets. We visited Tasmania 17 years ago on holiday from Perth and fell in love with it. Due to family and businesses committments it has taken us that long to make the move. Love Tassie. People friendly. Time to talk to you. The weather NOT as cold as what I remember in U.K. Very pretty. My kids are grow so can't comment on life for young kids but definatley a lot of outside activities. Tassie's are HORSE MAD. Plenty of places to ride. Aggistments etc. I happen to work in a real estate office and also involved in the Property Management. Would you like us to send you a weekly properties magazine and can also send you a rental update and maybe some other information that may be of interest. So if you want to forward your address or your private email would be very happy to assist.
