Hi

My name is Toni.
I'm new here on Tassie Chat Forums.
I'm heading down to Hobart in July for 5 days on Hols.
First holiday I have in years, It's nice to be getting way from the kids...I have 5...lol.
I will be staying in Fern Tree.
How cold does it get down there?
And is there snow on top of Mt Wellington yet?
Please anyone who wants to reply, go for it!
as I'm from Queensland I'm not sure what to expect with the weather and all.
Any suggestions on what to visit will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers Toni

It's actually been a bit too damp for snow this past fortnight - there were a few dustings in May, but it looks like it'll hold off a bit longer.
Fern Tree ... Close to the mountain, so be prepared for some frosts.
During the day, you should expect around 14C in the sun, 10/11C in the shade - though the mountain proximity might mean more breezes, so it'll feel cooler.
There will be breezes in town, sometimes it's still, so a jumper or light coat/jacket won't go astray (worn/carried).

Nights are cool, typically 7-8C, *much* cooler if the skies are clear so take a coat on evening outings
If you have access to a column (fin) heater, leaving it on (for the duration of your trip) at 4.5-5 in the bedroom/living area will be v.nice.
If the place has ducted or good storage heaters then this probably won;t be necessary.

That all said, it'll probably "dry up" over July, allowing snow to make an appearance - Fern Tree often sees some snow over winter.
This would also easily drop the temps 2-3 degrees as well, before snow.

Roads will be damp of a morning and will get that way as the evenings progress, so make allowances for lower traction and possible frost - particularly outside the main urban areas.

If you head up the mountain - it will be very windy, the road is narrow at points and has many blind hairpins.

Let's see, Touristy things around Hobart
South Hobart - Cascade Brewery, the best brewery in the country - I'm biased, but a large portion of the mainland agrees emphatically when they get the chance to try it's goods.
