yeah... i got sick of all the crap getting in the way of chat..

like the crappy images that say "hello" etc.. you start typing and whammo.. heap of crap comes up.

personally, i use GTalk.. its light weight.. around 1.5Mb to dl, fast.. and versatile enough.

offers:
voice chat
voice message box
email alerts
basic text formatting.. (includes bold and italics)
and, the best thing of all, is if you send a smily as such:

:D
it comes out like so:
:D

oh, and if you need an online client, just log into your GMail.. it sits right along side your inbox :D
and if you need a client for your PPC... get imov messenger.. :D

You can dream.

On the laptop I have GTalk. HaAnywave used it since the day it come around, and havn't had any issues with it.
Use GAIM on the Linux box, which hooks into both the JABBER and whatever MSN runs on.

I have nothing against the majority of Google's products, but every now and again, they do things that make me wonder what the hell they are doing.

What protocols would it use? Forge your own standard or use something already in place? (such as Jabber)
