A 47-YEAR-OLD man is fighting for his life after allegedly being stabbed at a hotel near Hobart on Saturday night.[/b]


Kingston CIB detectives yesterday arrested a 42-year-old Kingston man in relation to the incident.

The man, who was apprehended at a residence in South Hobart, was charged with attempted murder.

The alleged stabbing happened about 11.40pm at the Longley International Hotel.

The victim was in a critical, but stable, condition in the Royal Hobart Hospital last night.

Police and ambulance units rushed to the hotel, in the foothills of Mt Wellington, on Saturday night after emergency services received calls about a knife attack.

Ambulance personnel attended to the victim and transported him to hospital.

Longley International Hotel, licensed in 1861 and in its current building since 1936, is popular with members of Hobart"s motorcycling community.

The pub, on the former Huon Highway, has previously hosted parties for participants in the Motorcycle Riders Association toy run.

The parties can draw up to 1500 bikers, who camp on the banks of North-West Bay River.

In Devonport on January 23 Dr Erika Jelliman, 38, was stabbed to death in her family home.

Her husband Hilton Stanford Jelliman, 28, has been charged with murder.

Last month 25-year-old Tamika Gaye Wordsworth, who stabbed a friend in a jealous attack at Bridgewater, was jailed for six months.

Wordsworth became enraged when she returned from buying alcohol and her boyfriend claimed he had had sex with her friend.

She plunged a large carving knife 3cm into her friend"s face above the left eye.
